About this product
Rewild your home & support our pollinators with these ? easy to grow wildflower seed balls The last 50 years has been witness to huge declines in pollinators and other garden wildlife, but together we can really really do something to reverse this.? 97% of natural bee and butterfly habitat has been lost in the UK since WW2. 97%. Ninety Seven Percent. It's frightening and critical.? With your help, we can start to restore the lost wildflower habitat and make an important contribution to the biodiversity of Great Britain ? Created by conservation scientists and 100% British made, Seedball is a unique innovation to help more people grow bee and butterfly-friendly wildflowers. They are manufactured in-house using a mixture of UK-native seeds, clay, peat-free compost and chilli powder to create a protective casing against seed predators (e.g. birds and ants). They??re incredibly easy to use - scatter (no digging!) on top of soil, and with rain and warm sun, the seeds will grow! This grab bag contains a?gorgeous mix of British native wildflowers that are ideal for shadier areas of your garden and balcony. While these will struggle in total shade (as would all flowers!), this mix is designed for spots which receive only dappled sun or sun for just one part of the day (although will grow equally well in areas of full sun). Seeds are? from a mixture of Bellflower, Forget-me-not, Meadow buttercup, Meadowsweet, Oxeye daisy, Ragged robin and Red campion. Each bag of?Shade Mix contains 100 seed balls, enough to cover 5 metre square in a garden bed or 15-25 medium sized pots (leave at least 10cm between each ball). Best scattered in Spring or Autumn. Oxeye Daisy ? (Leucanthemum vulgare):? Perennial. In Austria and Germany oxeye daisies were hung inside the house as it was believed they would repel lightning. Height: 30-90cm Flowers: May to September Red Campion ?(Silene dioica):?A perennial with rose pink petals. Silenus the merry god of the woodlands in Greek mythology, gave his name to Silene dioica. The second part of its scientific name, dioica, means 'two houses', and refers to the fact that each Red Campion plant has flowers of one sex only, so that two plants are needed to make seeds. Height: 20-60cm Flowers: March to November Forget-Me-Not ?(Myosotis arvensis):?Short annual with blue-grey flowers occasionally interspersed with pink flowers.? Forget-me-nots have been used in the past for their astringent properties. The name Myosotis is derivation of the Latin and Greek for mouse and ears. Height: 10-40cm Flowers: April to October Bellflower ?(Campanula?thrachelium): A medium to tall perennial with beautiful bell-shaped blue flowers. Height: 50-100cm Flowers: June to September ? Meadow Buttercup (Ranunculus acris): The tallest and most elegant of our native buttercups, this plant sometimes reaches a height of 90cm. This native winter-green perennial is found on most grazed or cut grasslands throughout Britain, but has a preference for moist soils. Height: 5-90cm Scatter: Autumn or Spring Flowers: April to October Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria):? A tall grassland perennial with clusters of creamy white flowers. Height: 60-90cm Flowers: June to September Ragged Robin (Lynchis flos-cuculi): Beautiful tall perennial with raggedy red flowers. Height: 30-50cm Flowers: June to July ? Emily & Ana, the creators of Seedball, are on a mission to help increase the abundance of British wildflowers and wildlife that depend upon them. They?believe that if we can all better use whatever space we have available to us (whether a back garden, balcony, window box, little patio etc) we can together have a hugely beneficial impact on our local ecosystems. They want?Seedball to inspire a wildlife gardening revolution while providing a very handy way of going about it! Conservation is in the?heart and soul of Seedball and one day we dream to fund their?own Seedball wildflower reserves.
