Located in Vila Nova Foz Ca in the Douro Superior winemaking subregion, the renowned Quinta do Vale Meo was founded in the 19th century and is considered one of Portugal's most iconic producers, having been awarded several times on the Wine Spectator Top 100 list. Produced in small quantities, Quinta do Vale Meo Monte Meo Vinha da Cantina is a red wine made with carefully selected and hand-picked Baga grapes from the estate's vineyards located in the Douro Superiore, in northern Portugal. The vines are rooted in the schist/granite soils typical of the area. After harvesting and gentle pressing, fermentation traditionally takes place in stone vats (lagares) for 10 days. The finished wine ages in used medium-sized barrels for 16 months. In the glass, the wine reveals a broad and elegant aromatic profile with delicious notes of red fruits and plum, followed by hints of tobacco and liquorice over a delicate woody undertone. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and lively, fruity, with well-integrated tannins and a vibrant acidity. The finish is long and fresh. Leave it in the cellar for a few years, or enjoy it now with roast goat, beef brisket, and venison stew.
