Clos de Luz Massal 1945 Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant before serving. Clos de Luz is an exceptional family-run winery located in Chiles Almahue Valley some 70 miles to the south-east of Santiago. Founded in 1892, the winery is now in the capable hands of the fourth generation of the same family with some 33 acres of prime vineyards mostly planted with Carmenere and smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are all sourced from estate vineyards and are fermented using indigenous yeasts. The Cabernet is then aged for 12 months in a combination of large 7000 litre casks and standard small French oak barrels as well as a few 600 litre oak barrels. The result is a harmonious and muscular Cabernet with plenty of ripe fruit character along with hints of toasted oak and cigar box spice from the ageing process. There is a generous full body along with firm tannins and a well-built structure that will respond well to additional time in the cellar. For those who prefer to enjoy it now, it is also an ideal choice to drink now alongside hearty red meat dishes such as steak, beef stews, or fresh pasta served with a rich ragu sauce.
