Xanadu Reserve Chardonnay 2021

Cellar for up to 15 years. Decanting is optional, up to 30 minutes before serving. Located halfway between the town of Margaret River and the vast Indian Ocean, Xanadu has become one of Australias premier wineries and an enduring symbol of Western Australias pioneering spirit. The winery was established in 1977 by the erudite Irishman Dr John Lagan and his wife Eithne, making it one of the first estates to appear in the region. The following 40 years have seen a change of ownership, to the Rathbone family, with Senior Winemaker Glenn Goodall pushing the letter for high-quality wine on behalf of all of Western Australia. The Reserve Chardonnay is a perfect embodiment of Xanadus quiet power and inimitable style. Its grapes were sourced from the oldest vineyard on the estate, planted by Dr John Lagan himself in the 1970s. It is 100% Gingin clone Chardonnay, alive with scents of sweet, tart stone fruit, such as nectarine and peach. These fruit notes expand and elaborate on the palate, supported by pear, citrus fruits, subtle mineral notes and hints of oceanic salinity. The terse acidity and core of strong fruit flavours make this a wine of recognisable intensity, and a must-have for any serious collector. It will be superb alongside white fish, shellfish, or a succulent roast chicken.
