Weingut Franz Hirtzberger Singerriedel Riesling Smaragd 2021

Drink it now or cellar for up to 30 years. No need to decant, but best to open it for an hour before service. The Austrian family-run winery Franz Hirtzberger is located in the village of Spitz in the Wachau wine region, in a strategic position ideally between the mountains and the Danube, where Gruner Veltliner and Riesling create wines of amazing quality and longevity. The Riesling grapes are selected and harvested by hand in the steep Singerriedel vineyard located behind the Hirtzberger winery, in one of the best locations in the entire Wachau wine region. Here the vines enjoy a mineral-rich soil from the paragneiss, with mica, slate, and mineral rock. The entire vineyard, widely regarded as the crown jewel of the estate, has undergone a complete renovation lasting about 20 years with the reconstruction of the stone terraces in traditional style. Singerriedel Riesling Smaragd has a clear greenish-yellow color with bright silver reflections. On the nose, it reveals an intense and fresh aromatic profile with notes of mango and passion fruit, peach and white flowers, and hints of lime and orange peel in the background. On the palate, it is powerful and juicy, full-bodied and intensely mineral. It is fresh and fruity with a strong and clear acidity that suggests excellent aging potential. The finish is long with hints of citrus and minerals. Drink it immediately with oysters or shellfish, or store it in the cellar for 2 or 3 decades.
